kāmakāmo jāyate kāmeśvaro vaiśravaṇaḥ || 1 || vaiśravaṇo brahmaputro vālakhilyaḥ svayaṃbhuvaṃ paripṛcchati- jagatāṃ kā vidyā kā devatā jāgratturīyayorasya ko devo yāni kasya vaśāni kālāḥ kiyatpramāṇāḥ kasyājñayā ravicandragrahādayo bhāsante kasya mahimā gaganasvarūpa etadahaṃ śrotumicchāmi nānyo jānāti tvaṃ brūhi brahman || 2 || vivaraṇam pāśupatabrahmavidyāsaṃvedyaṃ paramākṣaram | paramānandasaṃpūrṇaṃ rāmacandrapadaṃ bhaje || iha khalu atharvaṇavedapravibhakteyaṃ pāśupatabrahmopaniṣat haṃsasūtrasvarūpaprakaṭanavyagrā niṣpratiyogikabrahmamātraparyavasannā vijayate | asyāḥ saṃkṣepato p. 228) vivaraṇamārabhyate | vālakhilyasvayaṃbhūpraśnaprativacanarūpeyamākhyāyikā vidyāstutyarthā | ākhyāyikāmavatārayati- atheti | atha prāṇyadṛṣṭaparipākānantaram | ha vā iti vṛttārthasmaraṇārthau nipātau | svayameva bhavatīti svayaṃbhūḥ brahmā tasya prajāḥ sṛjeyamiti kāmaṃ kāmaḥ kāmakāmo jāyate prādurbabhūva | tatsaṃkalpānurodhena kāmeśvaro rudraḥ, lalāṭāt krodhajo trivarṇasahitā caturmātrātmakoṃkāro mama prāṇātmikā devatā || 4 || ahameva jagattrayasyaikaḥ patiḥ || 5 || mama vaśāni sarvāṇi yugānyapi ca || 6 || ahorātrādimatisaṃvardhitāḥ kālāḥ || 7 || mama rūpā ravestejaścandranakṣatragrahatejāṃsi || 8 || gagano mama triśaktimāyāsvarūpaḥ nānyo madasti || 9 || tamomāyātmako rudraḥ sātvikamāyātmako viṣṇū rājasamāyātmako brahmā | indrādayastāmasarājasātmikā na trivarṇasahitā sthūlametaddhrasvadīrghaplutam iti śrutyanurodhena ya oṃkāraḥ caturmātrātmako bhavati so'yaṃ mama prāṇātmikā devatā || 4 || jāgratturīyayorasya ko devaḥ iti praśnamapākaroti- ahameveti | asya jāgradāditurīyāntakalanākalitasya jagattrayasya ahameka eva devaḥ, mama sūtrādirūpeṇa jagattrayacālakatvāt || 5 || yāni kasya vaśāni iti praśnamapākaroti- mameti | kṛtādiyugāni, apicaśabdābhyāṃ sthāvarajaṅgamātmakaṃ jagacca madvaśe vartata ityarthaḥ || 6 || kālāḥ kiyatpramāṇāḥ iti praśnamapākaroti- ahorātreti | nimeṣāhorātrādimatyā saṃvardhitāḥ kalpāvasānāḥ kālāḥ || 7 || kasyājñayā ravicandragrahādayo bhāsante iti praśnamapākaroti- mama rūpā iti | yadādityagataṃ tejo jagadbhāsayate'khilam | yaccandramasi yaccāgnau tattejo viddhi māmakam || iti smṛteḥ || 8 || kasya mahimā gaganasvarūpaḥ iti caramapraśnamapākaroti- gagana iti | gaganaḥ gaganam | kriyājñānecchārūpeṇa durgālakṣmīsarasvatīrūpeṇa vā māyāmayāḥ tisraḥ śaktayaḥ tatkāryajātaṃ ca manmahimāsvarūpamityarthaḥ | ahametādṛśaḥ parameśvaraḥ, madatirekeṇa na kiṃcidastītyāha- nānya iti || 9 || rudrādayaḥ kiṃguṇaviśiṣṭā ityata āha- tama iti | tasya sarvasaṃhārakatayā tāmasaguṇopādhitvāt | viṣṇvatirekeṇa na sāttvikaḥ ko'pi, tasya sarvamaryādāpālakatayā śuddhasattvarūpatvāt | ata evā'yaṃ aghoraḥ sarvasādhāraṇasvarūpaḥ sattvaguṇāvaṣṭambhataḥ śāntarūpeṇa bhaktakoṭisādhāraṇatvāt || 10 || p. 230) sṛṣṭiyajñe viṣṇvāyattatvāt, viṣṇuḥ adhvaryuḥ anyūnādhikatayā tat pālayan | cālakatvāt hotā indraḥ, stutaśastrakṛttvāt | tattaddevatārūpeṇa paśupatireva yajñabhuk | mānasaṃ brahma- vāṅmaunapūrvaṃ mānasaṃ manasā sarvartviṅnirvartyaprayogadraṣṭṛtvena yajñopabṛṃhaṇāt- maheśvaraṃ brahma brahmaṇaḥ sarvadraṣṭṛtayā brahma brahmāṇaṃ maheśvaraṃ viddhi || 11 || nādānusaṃdhānayajñaḥ mānaso haṃsaḥ so'haṃ haṃsa iti tanmayaṃ yajño nādānusaṃdhānam | tanmayavikāro jīvaḥ || 12 || ko'yaṃ yajña ityatra nādānusaṃdhānam ityāha- mānasa iti | haṃsaḥ- so'hamiti cirabhāvanātaḥ tanmayaṃ tadbhāvasādhanaṃ yat nādānusaṃdhānaṃ tadeva mānaso yajño bhavatītyarthaḥ | evamanusaṃdhātā jīvastu ucchvāsaniḥśvāsavadyanmanaḥ tanmayavikāraḥ | jīvasya prāṇamana-upādhikatvāt tadvikāratvaṃ yujyata ityarthaḥ || 12 || paramātmano haṃsatvanirūpaṇam paramātmasvarūpo haṃsaḥ | antarbahiścarati haṃsaḥ | antargato'navakāśāntargatasuparṇasvarūpo haṃsaḥ || 13 || p. 231) haṃsastu svatattvajñānena svātiriktabhramaṃ hanti apahnavaṃ karotīti haṃsaḥ paramātmā bhavati | sa kutra āsanamarhatītyatra- so'yaṃ haṃsaḥ prāṇāpānopādhiyogāt antarbahiścarati | yadvā- sarvaprāṇyantarbahiścarati pratyagabhinnabrahmarūpeṇa upalabhyate, antarbahiśca tat sarvaṃ vyāpya nārāyaṇaḥ sthitaḥ iti śruteḥ | sarvaprāṇyantaḥ kāmādayo vartante, bāhye śabdādiviṣayāśca, tathā sati svavyāpteḥ anavakāśāt kathamantargato bahirgato vā bhaviturmahatītyatra- sarvaprāṇyantarbāhyagatakāmaśabdādiviṣasarpagrāsasuparṇasvarūpo haṃsaḥ | pratyagabhinnaṃ brahmāsmīti samyagjñānasya svāntarbāhyakalanāvilayapūrvakatvāt haṃsaḥ svāntarbahiḥ vyāpya paripūrṇau bhavatītyarthaḥ | tathāca smṛtiḥ- viṣayā bāhyadeśasthā dehasyāntarahaṃkṛtiḥ | sarvagrahopasaṃśāntau svayamevāvaśiṣyate || iti || 13 || yajñasūtrabrahmasūtrayoḥ sāmyam ṣaṇṇavatitattvatantuvadvyaktaṃ citsūtratrayacinmayalakṣaṇaṃ navatattvatrirāvṛtaṃ brahmaviṣṇumaheśvarātmakamagnitrayakalopetaṃ cidgranthibandhanam advaitagranthiḥ || 14 || yajñasādhāraṇāṅgaṃ bahirantarjvalanaṃ yajñāṅgalakṣaṇabrahmasvarūpo haṃsaḥ || 15 || bāhyāntarbhāsamānayajñabrahmasūtrayoḥ sāmyamāha- ṣaṇṇavatīti | caturaṅgulamānena ṣaṇṇavatisaṃkhyāviśiṣṭaṃ yajñasūtraṃ yathā vyaktaṃ bhavati tathā ṣaṇṇavatitattvatantuviśiṣṭaṃ brahmasūtraṃ vyaktaṃ bhavati | yajñasūtraṃ tu sūtratrayaviśiṣṭatantulakṣaṇaṃ, brahmasūtraṃ tu dvituryāvikalpātmanā citsūtratrayacinmayalakṣaṇaṃ bhavati | yathā yajñasūtraṃ sūtratrayaṃ trirāvṛtaṃ yadi tadā navasūtraṃ bhavati tathā brahmasūtramapi dvituryāvikalpatrayaṃ trirāvṛtaṃ cet navamahātattvātmakaṃ bhavati | yadvā- turyaviśvavirāḍotrādibhedena navatattvaṃ turyaprājñabījānujñaikarasātmanā trirāvṛtaṃ tṛtīyapādaparyavasannaṃ p. 232) bhavati | yadvā- navatattvatrirāvṛtaṃ brahmasūtraṃ brahmaviṣṇu maheśvarātmakaṃ gārhapatyādyagnitrayakalopetaṃ vā bhavati | evaṃ tridhābhinnabrahmasūtraikyopāyastu cinmātrādatiriktaṃ tridhā vibhaktaṃ na kiṃcidastīti cidgranthibandhanam | vyaṣṭisamaṣṭitadaikyāvabhāsakacitāmaikyaṃ granthibandhanataḥ kathamityatra- advaitagranthiḥ tadaikyagrantheḥ tadbhedagrāsatvāt advaitagranthiḥ advitīyaparamātmā bhavatītyarthaḥ | yadā yajñasūtrabrahmagranthiḥ tadaikyahetuḥ tathā atrāpītyarthaḥ || 14 || bāhyāntaḥsūtrayoḥ sāmānādhikaraṇyamāha- yajñeti | yajñasūtraṃ bahiḥ jvalatīti yathā bāhyayajñasādhāraṇāṅgaṃ bhavati tathā brahmasūtramantarjvalatītyantaryajñasādhāraṇāṅgaṃ bhavatīti jñeyam | haṃsastu antaryajñāṅgalakṣaṇabrahmasvarūpo bhavati || 15 || brahmayajño brāhamaṇādhikārikaḥ upavītalakṣaṇasūtrabrahmagā yajñāḥ | brahmāṅgalakṣaṇayukto yajñasūtram | tadbrahmasūtram | yajñasūtrasaṃbandhī brahmayajñaḥ tatsvarūpaḥ || 16 || bāhyayajñāstu upavītalakṣaṇasūtravadbrahmagā brahmaṇāśrayā bhavanti | yajñasūtraṃ brahmāṅgalakṣaṇayukto vedāṅgalakṣaṇayukto brāhmaṇo bhajati | tat brahmasūtramapi sa eva bhajati | tat kathamityatra- yajñasūtravadbrāhmaṇasaṃbandhī brahmayajñaḥ, brahmaniṣṭhāyā brāhmaṇanirvartyatvāt | yo yanniṣṭhaḥ sa tatsvarūpo bhavati || 16 || praṇavahaṃsasya brahmayajñatvam aṅgāni mātrāṇi | manoyajñasya haṃso yajñasūtram | praṇavaṃ brahmasūtraṃ brahmayajñamayam | praṇavāntarvatīṃ haṃso brahmasūtram | tadeva brahmayajñamayaṃ mokṣakramam || 17 || p. 233) yatpraṇavaniṣṭhaḥ praṇavo bhavati tadaṅgāni kānītyatra- mātrāṇi akārādimātrāḥ | aṅgipraṇavasvarūpaṃ kīdṛśamityatra- manoyajñasya antaryajñasya phalatvena yo virājate haṃsaḥ tatsvarūpameva yajñasūtram | praṇavaṃ praṇavaḥ brahmasūtramayaṃ brahmayajñaśca | yata evam ato haṃsa eva sarvaṃ, tadatiriktaṃ na kiṃcidasti ityarthaḥ | yo haṃsaḥ praṇavārthatayā praṇavāntarupalabhyate sa eva brahmasūtram | pratyagabhinnaṃ brahma yat brahmasūtraṃ tadeva brahmayajñamayaṃ nirviśeṣabrahmajñānam | tadeva mokṣakramaṃ svātiriktabhramamokṣaṇasya svamātrajñānameva sādhanaṃ, tadatiriktasādhanajālasya tanmokṣaṇe'kiṃcitkaratvāt | ayameva hi kramaḥ ; nānyaḥ panthā ayanāya vidyate iti śruteḥ || 17 || brahmasaṃdhyākriyārūpo manoyāgaḥ brahmasaṃdhyākriyā manoyāgaḥ | saṃdhyākriyā manoyāgasya lakṣaṇam || 18 || manoyāgaḥ kīdṛśa ityata āha- brahmeti | tat tvamasi ahaṃ brahmāsmi iti pratyakparabrahmaṇoraikyameva saṃdhyākriyā manoyāga ucyate | tayoḥ saṃdhyākriyā hi manoyāgasya lakṣaṇam ityatra- jīvātmaparamātmanoḥ ekatvajñānena tayoḥ bheda eva vibhagnaḥ, sā saṃdhyeti- nodakairjāyate saṃdhyā na mantroccāraṇena tu | saṃdhau jīvātmanoraikyaṃ sā saṃdhyā sadbhirucyate | iti śruteḥ smṛteśca || 18 || haṃsapraṇavābhedānusaṃdhānaṃ antaryāgaḥ yajñasūtraṃ praṇavam | brahmayajñakriyāyukto brāhmaṇaḥ | brahmacaryeṇa caranti devāḥ | haṃsasūtracaryā yajñāḥ | haṃsapraṇavayorabhedaḥ || 19 || p. 234) haṃsasya prārthanāstrikālāḥ | trikālāstrivarṇāḥ viṣṇoḥ praṇavārthatvāt brahmayajñakriyā niṣkāmakarmāniṣṭhānasahakṛtadhyānasamādhiḥ, tadanuṣṭhātā brāhmaṇaḥ, tasya parāparabrahmavittvāt | brahmabhāve manaścāro brahmacaryaṃ vidurbudhāḥ iti śrutyanurodhena devā indrādayo'pi sadā brahmacaryeṇa caranti, teṣāṃ prajāpatiśiṣyatvena brahmavittvāt | yajñā api haṃsasūtracaryāḥ antaryajñānāṃ pratyāhāradhāraṇādhyānasamādhīnāṃ haṃsasūtracaryābhirvāvahetutvāt | ātmamantrasya haṃsasya parasparasamanvayāt iti smṛtisiddhaḥ haṃsapraṇavayorabhedaḥ, vācyavācakayorekatvāt || 19 || haṃsapraṇavayorekatvaṃ kathamityatrāha- haṃsasyeti | pratyagabhinnaparamātmano haṃsasya āptyupāyabhūtāḥ prārthanāḥ śraṇavādayaḥ | te trikālāḥ, śravaṇādīnāṃ kālaparicchedyatvāt | bhūtāditrikālā eva akārāditrivarṇāḥ | viśvavirāḍotrāditretāgnyanusaṃdhāno'nusaṃdhānamantaryāgaḥ | tat kathamityatra- viśvāditretāgnyātmanāṃ dvituryāvikalpaparyavasannā- nāṃ vyaṣṭisamaṣṭitadubhayaikyākārādyākṛtivarṇavadoṃkārārtha- niṣpratiyogikaturyaturyahaṃsaḥ svamātramityanusaṃdhāno'nusaṃdhānamantaryāgaḥ || 20 || viśvavirāḍotrādicitsvarūpavattanmayaṃ tadgataheyāṃśāpāyasiddhaṃ turyapravibhaktaturīyasvarūpam | tadvikalpitāntarāditye svāntaḥkāmādivṛttyavabhāsakapratyaksūrye tadabhedena vidyotamānajyotiḥsvarūpo haṃsaḥ paramātmā || 21 || tadanusaṃdhānātmakāntaryajñābhidhānāṅgaṃ samyagjñānamaṅgibrahmasaṃpattihetuḥ, svāptesvātiriktāsaṃbhavasiddhasvajñānapūrvakatvāt | p. 235) ata eva brahmavidādayaḥ parākpravṛttinirasanapūrvakaṃ pratyagabhinnabrahmagocarā pravṛttiḥ tadālambanabhūtaḥ praṇavaḥ tadarthabhūtapratyakparavibhāgaikyāsahaturyaturyahaṃsarūpeṇa turīyoṃkārāgravidyotaṃ turyaturyaṃ brahmamātramasanna hi ityādiśrutitatisūcanāt haṃsasūtraṃ madvyatiriktamaṇumātraṃ na vidyate iti nirviśeṣabrahmajñānaṃ tenaiva haṃsaḥ svamātramiti dhyānamācaranti | evaṃniṣṭhāḥ tatsvarūpā eva bhavantītyarthaḥ || 22 || ṣaṇṇavatihaṃsasūtrāṇi provāca punaḥ svayaṃbhuvaṃ pratijānīte brahmapūtro ṛṣirvālakhilyaḥ | haṃsasūtrāṇi katisaṃkhyāni kiyadvā pramāṇam || 23 || hṛdādityamarīcīnāṃ padaṃ ṣaṇṇavatiḥ | citsūtrāghrāṇayoḥ svarnirgatā praṇavādhārā ṣaḍṅguladaśāśītiḥ || 24 || bālakhilyaḥ svayaṃbhūmukhāt evamavagamya punaḥ svāvagatidārḍhyāya brahmayajñasūtreyattāṃ pṛcchatītyāha- provāceti | vālakhilyo muniḥ punaḥ svayaṃbhuvaṃ prati he bhagavan- bhavān sarvaṃ pratijānīte, tava niraṅkuśasarvajñatvāt- haṃsasya paramātmanaḥ prāpakatayā sūcanāt sūtrāṇi katisaṃkhyākāni kiyadvā tatpramāṇaṃ tadiyatteti tadbubhutsayā provāca pṛṣṭavān || 23 || praśnottaraṃ bhagavānāha- hṛdīti | hṛdi vilasitakāmādivṛttisahasrabhāvābhāvaprakāśacidādityamarīcīnāṃ tattvakiraṇānāṃ varāhopaniṣatprakāśitānāṃ padaṃ svarūpaṃ ṣaṇṇavatiḥ, kārpāsakayajñasūtraṣaṇṇavatitulyamityarthaḥ ṣaṇṇavatisaṃkhyākacittattvamarīcayaḥ kva āvirbhūtā ityatra- citsūtropalabdhihetuhṛdayādyāghrāṇayoḥ viśvakāyavirāḍḍhṛdaye tatsaṃkalpata āvirbhūya- āghrāṇa ityatrākāraḥ chāndasaḥ- ghrāṇayoḥ ghrāṇābhyāṃ akārādisvarātmakocchvāsarūpeṇa bahirnirgatāni tattvāni p. 236) teṣāṃ bhedāḥ | kimādhārā ityatra parāparabrahmādhiṣṭhitapraṇavādhārāḥ santaḥ adyāpi vartante | katividhā ityatra ṣaḍaṅguladaśāśītiḥ ṣaṇṇavatividhā bhavanti | yadvā- ṣaṇṇavatyaṅgulaparimitaṣaṇṇavatitattvātmakā bhavanti || 24 || haṃsātmavidyaiva muktiḥ vāmabāhudakṣiṇakaṭyorantaścarati haṃsaḥ paramātmā brahmaguhyaprakāro nānyatra viditaḥ || 25 || ye jānanti te'mṛtaphalakāḥ | sarvakālaṃ haṃsaṃ na prakāśakam | praṇavahaṃsāntardhyānaprakṛtiṃ vinā na muktiḥ || 26 || itthaṃbhūtavirāṭcharīravāmabāhudakṣiṇakaṭyorantaścarati haṃsaḥ paramātmā yathā yajñasūtraṃ vāmabāhudakṣiṇakaṭyantaṃ virājate tathā vāmabāhudakṣiṇakaṭyupalakṣitasarvāṅgaṃ svāvidyāpadatatkāryajātaṃ tadantarbahiśca viśvaviśvādyavikalpānujñaikarasāntabhedena carati | vastutastu haṃsaḥ tatsarvāpahnavasiddhaparamātmarūpeṇa avaśiṣyata iti yo'rthaḥ so'yamartho brahmaguhyaprakāraḥ nānyatra viditaḥ, atraiva viśeṣataḥ prakaṭitatvāt || 25 || vidyāphalamāha- ya iti | kiṃ sarve'pyevaṃ haṃsaṃ ātmatayā viditvā tadvedanaphalaṃ amṛtatvaṃ nāpnuyuḥ ityata āha- sarveti | śrutiḥ smṛtirmamaivājñā yastāmullaṅghya vartate | ājñācchedī mama drohī madbhakto'pi na vaiṣṇavaḥ || iti smṛtisiddhasvājñārūpaśrutismṛtimārgollaṅghakānāṃ niṣpratiyogikabrahmamātraṃ bhāvarūpaṃ brahmātiriktāvidyāpadatatkāryajātamapi niṣpratiyogikābhāvarūpaṃ nānayoḥ vācyavācakakāryakāraṇādhārādheyatvam astīti sarvakālaṃ sadā na prakāśakaṃ p. 237) haṃsamātmānaṃ, viddhīti śeṣaḥ | teṣāṃ
